Multi vendor basket & check out
gearo GmbH E-commerce Responsive Web App
by Maximilian Heere
Summary
A shoot rarely needs just one item. The camera, the lens, the microphone and the gimbal often belong to different owners.
The multi-vendor basket let creators request a complete kit from several vendors in one checkout, with the payment method of their choice. Vendors could still accept, decline or cancel each item and document handovers and returns.
The challenge
Our MVP only let renters check out one item from one vendor at a time, so putting together a kit for a shoot meant several separate bookings. Vendors had to accept every request manually.
The objective: more transactions and more revenue through a better checkout.
Our targets
- Multi-vendor checkout live in production
- At least 20% more items per rental period, per user
- At least 20% larger average basket
Approach
We started from the way creators plan a shoot: they think in kits, not in single items. So we redesigned the journey for renters and vendors across product page, checkout, inbox and handover protocols, and added a basket for requesting multiple items from multiple vendors in one checkout.
Under the hood, this was a payment question as much as a UX one. One checkout had to be split across several vendor wallets on our regulated payment infrastructure, and each vendor still had to approve their own items before the rental was confirmed.
I owned research and data analysis, concept, UI design, UX writing and prototyping, evaluated third-party multi-capture payments and managed the implementation with our dev team. A newsletter campaign announced the launch.
Impact
Creators started booking the whole setup instead of single pieces, and more of them made it through checkout.
+85% Basket items
-34% Exit rate
+27% Completion rate checkout funnel
+€12.75 Average revenue per checkout
Outcome
Creators could book everything for a shoot in one go, and vendors could manage requests per item instead of per booking.
